Which skip size do you need?
The most common (and expensive) mistake is ordering too small, filling it, and needing a second skip. Here's how the four standard sizes compare.
Mini skip — 2 cubic yards
Holds: 20–30 bin bags · Footprint: roughly 1.5m × 1.2m — fits on most driveways
Right for: garden tidy-ups, shed clear-outs, small DIY jobs, a single room's clutter. Wrong for: anything involving rubble in quantity — it fills faster than you think.
Midi skip — 4 cubic yards
Holds: 30–40 bin bags · Footprint: roughly 1.8m × 1.4m
Right for: kitchen or bathroom refits, flooring replacement, medium garden landscaping. The most popular size for home projects.
Builders skip — 6 cubic yards
Holds: 60–70 bin bags · Footprint: roughly 2.6m × 1.8m — check access for the delivery lorry
Right for: extensions, garage clear-outs, full house clearances, serious rubble. The standard choice on building sites.
Maxi skip — 8 cubic yards
Holds: 80–90 bin bags · Footprint: roughly 3.7m × 1.8m
Right for: major renovations and commercial projects with bulky, lighter waste. Note: for dense waste (soil, rubble, hardcore) providers often steer you to a 6-yard instead — weight limits bite before volume does.
