What size skip do I need?
Measure your waste in bin bags — it's the comparison everyone can picture:

The rule that saves money
If you're torn between two sizes, take the bigger one. The step up typically costs £40–£50; a second skip costs the full price again. Underestimating is the most common regret.
The exception: heavy waste
Soil, rubble, concrete and hardcore hit the weight limit long before the skip looks full. For dense waste, providers often cap you at a 6-yard skip — an 8-yard full of soil is too heavy to lift safely. Mention heavy waste when you enquire.
Access matters too
A builders skip needs a lorry to get close. Narrow lanes, arches, overhead cables or steep drives can rule out bigger skips — flag awkward access up front.
